What's in a catchy tune? Historically, everything from brand loyalty to revolution. Music is a central part of popular culture; it is entertaining and provides a socially accepted medium for the repetition of messages (popular songs are played over and over again). Music offers a powerful, yet largely untapped, medium to communicate messages and create positive attitudes around all types of issues, such as health, HIV/AIDS, conflict prevention, human rights, etc. Crucial to using music as a strategy for social change is the marketability of the product, good music and good messaging with the ultimate goal of creating a popular culture that internalises the message.
CMFD's music is all written and produced by founder and director Daniel Walter, working in collaboration with talented musicians across the continent. Our music gets people moving, while passing along messages about everything from HIV to women's rights to preparing for a disaster.
THEME MUSIC CMFD produces original music for each radio drama. The music is used as the theme song, and also packaged and promoted as a single track that radio presenters can use to both publicise the drama and raise awareness of the issues. The music incorporates traditional and modern beats and rhythms, and the lyrics contain subtle messaging. |
